For many centuries, Iran has gained a reputation as a land
of weavers of beautiful and elegant carpets, Kerman-made carpets have played an
important role in acquiring, developing, and winning this reputation, in a way
that Kerman's name has been blended with Kerman carpet, and today, some know
Kerman by the name of Kerman-carpet .carpet in Kerman like other parts of Iran,
is woven in two ways :
1-carpets with the function of beautifying urban settler's
homes: their designs are the result of exudation of craftsmen's mind and their
wrap and woof are developed by magical hands of weavers. They are generally
produced in different parts of Kerman province
like Kerman,
Ravar, Shahdad, Golbaf, Andohjerd, Rayen, Rafsanjan, Zarand and
Sardui-yeh."golmohamadi" design is the most frequently used design in
kerman carpet and the most important function of this design can be seen in
"Sabzicar Ravar" design and "golsorkhi esfabndeghe" carpets.
The most famous designs of Kerman carpet are: "ghab ghoran"(Koran
frame),"sotuni" (columnar), "kheshti" (brick shaped),
"goldani"(flower
vase),"seram","jangali","shekargah"(hunting
ground), various beautiful "lachak Toranj" (triangular-citron)designs
and "Ravar Sabzicar"( vegetable- garden).
Kerman hand-made carpet (rug) is weaved
by two kinds of knot: Persian and Turkey. It's importance, stability
and permanence is so high that it is firmly rooted in the Persian literature
and the heading of this article conveys this fact. Kerman carpet is made of two
forms: with knot(Kaman Bala) and without knot (Kaman Shib).the carpet with knot
(Kaman Bala) is the ancient carpet of Kerman and the said proverb is also in
related to the value and importance of it. Now the most carpets coming to the
worldwide markets, with the name of Kerman
carpet, are without knot (Kaman Shib), that have the lower importance compared
with the carpet with knot(Kaman Bala). In fact this kind of carpet (knotty)
should be introduced as the ancient and famous carpet of Kerman. Producing weaving and this carpet is
on top of the goals of this complex.
Most
experts have estimated it's useful life time within ninety years, however ,
there are some carpets although have passed one century, have kept their
primary beauty and stability yet .the world considers the ancient carpet of
Kerman and it's hard wrap and woof as a permanent capital that becomes more
valuable day by day. What have made the Kerman
hand-made carpet superior to the other carpets are it's various design and
different colors, similarity between it's color and natural colors and,
stability of it's woods toward erosion and tension, dyestuff natural and
skilful color combination.
